NEW Dove DermaSpa Range

The lovely ladies from Dove UK kindly sent me some products from their new DermaSpa range for me to try out.

"In partnership with leading skin and beauty experts from around the world, Dove has created its most scientifically-advanced body care products ever, with industry leading technology resulting from over ten years of skincare research and the involvement of 280 scientists – the Dove DermaSpa range. By combining the latest advancements in dermatological care with the best spa formulations, new Dove DermaSpa is designed to awaken your senses and help women everywhere get back in touch with their bodies."

DermaSpa's Goodness range is designed for normal to dry skin. It contains four products, a body lotion, a body cream, a body oil and an indulgent hand cream. The Goodness collection products contain omega oil derived from sea buckthorn. Omega oil is known to replenish the skin's barrier. It also contains Dove's active formula to smooth the texture of the skin, leaving it looking luminous, velvety soft and even-looking.

The DermaSpa's Uplifted range contains a firming lotion, body oil and massaging body roll-on. These products contain Cell-Moisturisers™, which provide deep penetrating moisture, helping to restore skin's natural elasticity and leave your skin feeling firmer.

Goodness Body Oil (RRP £9.99) Uplifted Body Oil (RRP £9.99)
These are the two body oil's I got sent to me, one from the Goodness range and the other from the Uplifted range. The body oil from the Goodness range is designed to leave skin feeling silky soft, luminous, even looking and just gorgeous. It really does all those things. I applied it after I had been in the shower and it absorbed into my skin really quickly, without leaving a greasy, oily residue which many body oils sometimes do. It smells absolutely gorgeous too.

The Uplifted Body Oil is designed to moisturise and firm the skin from the very first use. This body oil is also gorgeous, leaving my skin feeling silky soft, without leaving an oily residue. I wouldn't say that my skin felt firmer after applying it the first time, but over a period of time, it  would probably help with the elasticity and firmness of the skin. This body oil also smells lovely.

Goodness Indulgent Hand Treatment (RRP £4.99) Intensive Hand Treatment (RRP £4.99)
These are the two hand treatments I got sent to me. I love them both, they are both extremely moisturising and nourishing and they smell gorgeous.

Summer Revived Body Lotion (RRP £6.99)
This is the Summer Revived Body Lotion. I'm a huge fan of the Dove Summer Glow, which is the same kind of product as this one, a gradual tanner. I always find with the Dove Summer Glow, I can never get all the product out of the bottle, as the bottle is quite firm. However, this tube is very "squashy" so I can imagine you could get every last drop out of the bottle, which is a great improvement. You apply this every day, and after a couple of applications, you start building up a gorgeous, healthy-looking bronzed glow, without streaks. Once you build up to the colour of your preference, you stop using it every day and just use it every couple of days to maintain the tan. As well as giving you a gorgeous glow, you are also left with skin which is full of moisture. This product comes in two shades, fair to medium skin and medium to dark skin.

Uplifted Massaging Body Roll-On (RRP £9.99)
I really love this product! It is designed for hard to reach areas, such as the thighs, bum and tummy. At first when I applied this to my thighs and bum, it felt a little "sticky" however, it quickly absorbed into my skin, feeling it really nourished and moisturised. As soon as it had absorbed, my skin instantly felt a little bit firmer. The silver rollerballs help to tone, smooth and firm the skin. I can't wait to use this every day and in a few weeks see the results!

I love each and every one of these products, they are all gorgeous! They all do exactly what they are supposed to do, leave you smelling gorgeous and leave you with nourished, moisturised skin.

I will definitely be purchasing these products in the future when I run out!

Makeup Revolution

I've heard so many good things about the beauty brand Makeup Revolution, so I decided to check out their website and treated myself to a couple of goodies!
The Ultra Contour Palette cost me £8 and the Iconic Pro Lipstick cost me about £2.49.

The packaging is really nice too. It makes the products look a lot more expensive than they actually are! The contour palette is virtually identically to the Anastasia Beverly Hills contour palette, the colours are pretty much the same and the packaging is very similar too. The only difference is the two shimmery highlighters which have been added to it.

The Ultra Contour Palette comes with six powder contouring colours and then two shimmery highlighters. The colours are so pigmented and blend really well on the face, using either a brush or blending sponge. These colours are perfect for my fair skin tone.
The silver highlighter is one of the best highlighters I have used! I have no words for how good it is, it really is incredible. It gives your skin the most gorgeous, radiant glow. I am going to purchase the Pro Curve Contour Powder Brush to go with my palette.

I also purchased this Iconic Pro Lipstick in shade "Game of Mystery". It is a gorgeous pale, nude colour, which I couldn't resist buying as I love my nude colours. Because it only cost me £2.49, I wasn't really expecting this product to be any good. However, I am completely in love. It glides on the lips really smoothly and the colour is really pigmented. It is also really thick and luxurious. The staying power is pretty good as well. There are 20 shades available in the lipstick range, so I will definitely be purchasing some more.

I will definitely be purchasing products from Makeup Revolution again, such a gorgeous beauty brand!

MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer

Left to right: Halycon, Funk, Reckless, Zest
I have been really looking forward to writing this blog post and sharing it with you because I absolutely adore these liquid lipsticks.

They are from the brand MUA (Makeup Academy) which is a really affordable brand, available from their website or Superdrug. When I say affordable, I mean these lipsticks are £3 each!

I have four shades at the moment, two older colours and two of the new colours. The older colours are the ones with the black lids and the newer ones are the ones with the gold lids. I much prefer the newer packaging, I think it makes them look a lot more expensive than what they are.

These are liquid lipsticks, so you apply them like you would a lipgloss, but rather than the finish being glossy, they dry to a beautiful matte consistency. The colours are so pigmented and go on really thick.

Left to right: Reckless, Funk, Zest, Halycon
These can be quite drying on the lips, however, their staying power is amazing, they literally last all day. I've worn these to go out for meals, going out for drinks, going out for the day and I've not had to reapply at all. After doing the swatches, I really had to scrub and scrub my arm to get them off!
(If you put plenty of lip balm on before applying, they don't feel as drying on the lips).

These products are definitely my favourite lip products at the moment, I can't recommend them enough!

Glossybox: October 2015

This Glossybox is Autumn themed and it brings you products designed to help your skin feel fresh and bright during the colder weather and darker evenings.

I've been really excited to share this post with you as this Glossybox is a really good one!

In this box you get five full-sized products, no sample sizes this time!

Nicka K Airbrush Blending Sponge full size - £6.50
The first product which caught my eye was this airbrush blending sponge. I've been wanting to buy one of these for ages, but never got round to it! This blends makeup perfectly on your face, giving you a flawless finish. The dome shape reaches in all the hard to reach places on your face, like the corners of your nose.

Jelly Pong Pong Play Paint full size - £8.95
This product is a lip and cheek tint, you basically apply the tiniest amount to your lips and cheeks to give you an instant flush of healthy colour. Perfect for brightening up your skin during the colder months.

So Susan Haute Light Highlighting Pencil full size - £15
I love this product, the packaging is so cute! This highlighting pencil can be used in many ways, applied on the inner rim of the eyes, blended over brow bones or blended over cheek bones. This is a lovely product, it glides on really easily, and blends easily too, leaving your skin looking radiant.

Talika Photo-Hydra Day full size - £24.85
I got this moisturiser in an old monthly subscription box I used to get and it's one of my favourite moisturisers, so I'm really glad I have got one again! It leaves your skin super soft and nourished.

Lanolips Lemonaid Lip Aid full size - £8.99
I'm in love with this lip product. It is ultra-rich and creamy and leaves dry lips feeling fresh, soft and moisturised. It also have a glossy/shimmery finish, but doesn't feel "sticky" like many other lip treatments do. It also has a wonderful taste, it actually tastes like fresh lemons!

I seem to say this every month, but this is my favourite box so far! They just seem to keep getting better and better!

If you are considering signing up for this wonderful monthly subscription box, you can do so here.

How I Clean My Makeup Brushes

I don't particularly enjoy cleaning my makeup brushes, I just find it such a chore! However, if you think about how much bacteria is present on them, it really is a necessity to clean them on a regular basis. Bacteria on face = clogged pores & spots!

Rather than using all these fancy brush cleansers etc. I use good old baby shampoo and warm water.
All I do is rinse the brush head in warm water, apply a blob of baby shampoo, rub it all in, and rinse it off with clean water.

I then simply place the wet brushes on a clean towel to air dry. Fold the end of the towel over and place the brushes how I have in the photos above. This will help prevent water getting trapped in the brush, which can cause rusting and the bristles to fall out!

So there's my simple way of cleaning my makeup brushes! How do you clean yours?

Beauty Mistakes You Will Never Make Again

I like to think that I am quite good at applying my makeup nowadays, however, when I was much younger I also used to think the same. Looking back makes me cringe so hard, I looked a complete mess! What was I thinking?

I literally want to curl up into a ball and hide when I think about my past beauty blunders, but I thought it would be funny to share them with you:

1. Foundation lips. Pretty much every teenage girl I know went through this stage at one point. Smearing foundation all over my lips to blend them into my face so they looked non-existent. Just why?

2. Over plucking my eyebrows. I'm still suffering due to the after effects of doing that many years ago!

3. WAAAY too much mascara. If your eyelashes weren't stuck together, you weren't wearing enough mascara.

4. Foundation about 5 shades darker than my actual skin tone.

5. Frying my hair with hair straighteners. I literally used to straighten my hair every day, morning and night, using no heat protection what so ever. At one point, I actually had a bald patch from where my hair fell out.

6. Not taking my makeup off properly. Half the time, I didn't even bother to take my makeup off before going to bed, but even when I did, I just used face wipes. And then wondered why my skin was horrendous.

I'm so glad I have upped my makeup game since then!
Do you have any past beauty mistakes you wish to share?

Greek Chicken Gyros

*These photos and recipe are not mine. Found them on Pinterest from cookingclassy.com

I was looking through some holiday photos from when I went to Greece in June and I was getting so upset because I miss everything about Greece, the people, the culture and most of all, the food.

I found this recipe on Pinterest and I had to make it.
It did take quite a while to prepare everything, but I made everything completely from scratch (except the flatbread, I just bought some tortilla wraps instead!). However, it is completely worth the prep time, because it has so many flavours, it is so filling and just completely gorgeous.

Ingredients for Chicken Soulvaki
  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil, plus more for brushing
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 3 Tbsp plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 Tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1/3 cup chopped red onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp coriander
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
For serving
  • 6 - 8 Greek Pita Flatbread, homemade or store-bought (recipe follows)
  • Tzatziki sauce, homemade or store-bought (recipe follows)
  • Diced Roma tomatoes, peeled and diced cucumbers, chopped Romaine lettuce, diced red onions, feta cheese, cilantro and Kalamata olives (olives optional).
Directions

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, Greek yogurt, red wine vinegar, chopped red onion, garlic, oregano, thyme, coriander and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Place chicken in a gallon ziploc bag, pour marinade over chicken, seal bag while pressing out excess air and transfer to refrigerator to marinate 2 - 4 hours. Remove chicken during the last 30 minutes of marinating to rest at room temperature before grilling (leave in marinade).
  • Brush grill grates lightly with oil and preheat grill over moderately high heat. Once hot, add chicken and grill until cooked through (internal temperature should register 165 degrees on an instant read thermometer), rotating once halfway through cooking. Remove from grill transfer to plate and brush chicken lightly with olive oil then cover with foil and allow to rest 10 minutes. Dice into strips.
  • To assemble gyros: Layer chicken in a row along center of pita, top with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, Kalamata olives, red onion, feta, cilantro and tzatziki sauce. Wrap and serve.
Ingredients for Tzatziki sauce
  • 1 medium cucumber, peeled, seeded and chopped into chunks*
  • 1 tsp salt, plus more to taste
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (I used fat free)
  • 1 clove garlic, finely minced
  • 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 Tbsp chopped fresh dill (or 1 tsp dried)
  • Freshly ground black pepper
Directions
  • Place diced cucumber in a mesh strainer or colander and sprinkle with salt, toss to evenly coat then allow to rest 30 minutes at room temperature.
  • Rinse cucumbers and place over several layers of paper towels. Squeeze some of the liquid from cucumbers (almost as if wringing moisture from a cloth). Place cucumbers in food processor and pulse to chop to desired size. Add in Greek yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, red wine vinegar, parlsey, and dill and season with salt and pepper to taste. Plus to blend (or if you want it chunky you can simply stir the other ingredients in using a bowl and spoon so the cucumbers are chopped up more). Store in refrigerator in an airtight container up to 3 days.
Although I didn't make the flatbread, here are the ingredients and directions on how to make it:

Ingredients for Greek pita flatbread
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 1/2 tsp granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup warm water, 110 degrees
  • 1/2 cup + 2 Tbsp milk, heated to 110 degrees
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil, plus more for bowl
  • 1 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 cups bread flour (can add up to 1/4 cup more flour as needed)
Directions
  • In the bowl of an electric stand mixer, whisk together yeast, sugar and warm water until yeast has dissolved then let rest 5 minutes. Add in warm milk, olive oil, salt and 1 1/2 cups bread flour and fit mixer with whisk attachment and blend mixture until well combined. Switch attachment to hook attachment, add in remaining 1 1/2 cups flour and knead mixture on low speed until blended, then increase to medium-low and allow to knead about 5 minutes longer until smooth an elastic (dough should not stick to sides of the bowl, so add more flour if necessary). Transfer dough to bowl lightly coated with oil, cover with a damp towel and allow to rest in a warm place until double in size, about 1 1/2 hours.
  • Press dough down and divide dough into 6 - 8 equal portions. Working with one piece at a time, roll dough out into a round (I made 6 large 8-inch pitas) on a lightly floured surface. Heat a large non-stick skillet slightly over medium heat. Once hot, add flatbread and cook until bubbles begin to appear on surface and bottom is golden brown, then flip and cook opposite side until golden brown. Transfer to a large plate, cover with foil leaving a small opening for excess moisture to escape. Repeat process with remaining flatbread. Store in an airtight container.
